Description
What this module covers:
The psychological and structural factors that drive sustained participation in recreation programs — covering motivation theory applied to leisure contexts and the design decisions that reduce attrition.
Core topics:
– Leisure motivation frameworks: autonomy, social connection, and perceived competence as participation drivers across different demographic groups
– Attrition diagnosis: identifying the program design factors most responsible for participant drop-off at different stages of a program cycle
– Re-engagement design: building the program experience and follow-up systems that make continued participation the path of least resistance
Approx. hours: +/- 4
What shifts:
A more deliberate approach to participation design — with the diagnostic tools and structural knowledge to build programs that retain people rather than continuously recruiting to replace those who leave.
